Free Post Mersey Tunnel is a sonorous sculpture made of sound-diffusing metal pipes in a maze-like arrangement. The sound was recorded in the Mersey Tunnels, crossing below Mersey River in Liverpool, where the piece was first exhibited at the Biennial in 2010, and reproduces the noise of the ventilation system along with the hum of the traffic above. The installation unveils the structure and sound of the underground, distilling and abstracting it from the original context.
